Not that this will stop Rockstar Games from DMCA’ing all the footage and screenshots that it can. Rockstar will likely at least try to address the problem by doing damage control. If it does’t, we can expect more and more details about GTA 6 to leak online. Case in point, fans just noticed that one of the NPC conversations appears to confirm exactly when GTA 6 is going to take place. Earlier rumors claimed that GTA 6 will take us back to Vice City, time and all. But, it appears that only a part of such leaks was true. According to one NPC from the leaked GTA 6 footage, the game will take place in modern times well after the events of GTA: Vice City and GTA: Vice City Stories. Even if the NPC does not mention the year at all, they reference an incident that takes place in GTA 5. Specifically, the NPC talks about the death of Lifeinvader CEO Jay Norris, who Michael De Santa killed in 2013. Unless GTA 6 takes place across multiple timelines, which is still possible, this is proof that the upcoming game takes place in the late 2010s and possibly even early 2020s. While we’re sad to learn that we won’t be getting a modernized version of the 2002 title, it makes more sense for Rockstar to develop a game for a more contemporary audience. A modern setting for GTA 6 will make it more relatable for today’s gamers. There’s even a part where you see a notification from “WhatUp!”, which is a parody of the popular real-life messaging app, WhatsApp. Ultimately, the motherload of all GTA 6 leaks will keep the internet buzzing for months if not years, especially after Jason Schreier confirmed its legitimacy. Only time will tell what kind of changes will happen to GTA 6 as a result of today’s events. But, for now, it’s safe to say that GTA 6 will take place in a modern version of Vice City and star, at the very least, one female protagonist.
