It also doesn’t help that Rockstar has chosen to stay mum regarding the entire thing. Fans have become so restless that they’ve resorted to grasping for straws. Even interviews with former voice actors have led fans to speculate that GTA 6 is in the works. However, after hearing Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick at the Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, we couldn’t help but consider what he said.
What Zelnick Said About Rockstar’s Last Two Reveals
Zelnick knows that it is in their best interest to keep mum until everything is confirmed. Being secretive about their games are partly what has kept fans excited for when they finally release. But it is interesting that Zelnick pointing out the pattern to how Rockstar unveiled their two latest games, which are Grand Theft Auto V and Read Dead Redemption 2. Both games were revealed via Twitter roughly around two years before they were officially released. In the case of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar simply tweeted “#GTAV” on October 2011 and showed the game’s logo via the company website. The game then released in September 2013. Meanwhile, for Red Dead Redemption 2, they took to Twitter once again, this time showing a teaser image for the game in October 2016 and the game would go on to release in November 2018. While Zelnick’s statement does not confirm the existence of GTA 6, it doesn’t deny it either. Furthermore, it does suggest that GTA 6 is still ways away from being released. There is also the possibility that GTA 6 is purposely taking their time to make sure that the game is not delayed nor as controversial. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed multiple times throughout their development. The latter, in particular, was delayed the longest. It went from an initial release date of fall 2017 to being released in November of 2018. Not to mention, it was subject to much controversy prior to and during its release, and the game was apparently plagued by poor working conditions. In some reports, members of the development team had to put in as many as 100 hours in a single week. With that said, it is in Rockstar’s interest to reveal the game only when it is truly ready. Unfortunately, if our speculations are true, then it might be a while before we see Rockstar reveal Grand Theft Auto 6, however they want to choose it. If it’s any consolation though, Rockstar doesn’t seem interested in stopping support for Grand Theft Auto V anytime soon. The 2013 title is due to get a next-gen version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X with Grand Theft Auto Online releasing as a standalone title.
