2021 marks Sonic’s 30th anniversary, but surprisingly, there has been very little news about what Sega has in store for celebrating this landmark year of Dr. Eggman’s (or Robotnik, if you prefer) archnemesis. However, a new leak may have revealed what Sega was keeping close to the chest for their famous blazing blue spokesperson. Read on to find out more about the possible Sonic 30th anniversary leak.
Prior Sonic Leak
There was actually a prior Sonic leak only a month before today. That leak pertained to a Sonic Colors remaster. Sonic Colors was a 2010 platform game published by Sega and released for the Nintendo Wii as well the portable Nintendo DS handheld. It was a commercial and critical success, which was a far cry from the infamous Sonic 06 that left a lasting negative impression on the franchise. The leak for Sonic Colors popped up on the website of a French video game retail company named SoGamely. The leak for Sonic Colors listed the remaster as Sonic Colors Ultimate Limited Edition. The title was also revealed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, Sony Playstation 4, and the Xbox One. SoGamely indicates this Sonic Colors ultimate version will be coming on December 2021.
New Leak Possibly for a Sonic Collection or a Brand New Game
The previous leak is significant as the new one discovered is also from the SoGamely website list. After the April 2021 leak, another entry has been listed as Sonic Collection EU Version. Unlike the Sonic Colors entry, however, this entry only has a template so far.
WE NOW HAVE A SONIC COLLECTION RETAIL LEAK TOO ON MULTIPLE SITES??!! ??JUNE I NEED YOU NOW?? pic.twitter.com/IKSGInjWN8 — ?GamesCage - Hype Guy? (@OnTheDownLoTho) May 23, 2021 Curiously, it also has the PS4 as the only platform. However, this may only be due to the fact that the page is still under construction and the retailer is awaiting confirmation from Sega. Regardless, this has only fueled the speculation among the fans of the Sonic franchise. This rumored leak has led to speculative discussion and differing views on what a 30th anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog collection would include. These range from simply being a compilation of the 2D games that were released on the legendary Sega Genesis and the Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, and the infamous Sega 32X/Sega CD add-ons, to a full compilation and HD remaster of the entire Sonic the Hedgehog library of the past 30 years.
Did Sega Confirm this Leak Indirectly?
Although the rumors of the possible Sonic Colors remaster and the Sonic 30th anniversary collection have been rampant on social media, Sega itself has neither confirmed nor denied the apparent leaks. But it would not be surprising that a Sonic collection of past hits would be included in the anniversary, as Sega has done the same multiple times in the past. However, Sega has made an interesting related post, tweeting about a first look on upcoming projects and news to celebrate 30 years of Sonic. The announcement indicates that it will be simultaneously broadcast on the official Sonic YouTube and Twitch accounts.
