Now, FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier just confirmed that season 5 of Fargo is on its way with an official synopsis that reads: “Set in 2019, when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?” It’s not exactly telling of what to expect from the Emmy-nominated show in its fifth season, but it’s more than enough to go on for fans to start speculating about what the season could revolve around. In particular, the plot synopsis for season 5 of Fargo suggests that it’s going to take heavy inspiration from the original 1996 movie “Fargo”. The William H. Macy-led film stars a struggling car salesman named Jerry Lundegaard who kidnaps his wife to make money off his wealthy father-in-law. Naturally, the plan backfires and what initially starts as a simple kidnapping leads to the death of several of those involved. If this fifth season tells a similar tale, it might suggest that Fargo is looking at possibly wrapping things up as well. Unfortunately, Schrier’s renewal of Fargo did not come with information about when season 5 of the show will hit streaming platforms. If it’s any consolation, the plot details and similarities to the original cult classic movie suggest that fans are in for quite the treat. The latest season of Fargo wrapped up in November 2020 with Chris Rock playing the role of Loy Cannon, a black migrant crime syndicate leader on the run from the law. In other news, Fargo’s creator, Noah Hawley, is working on an Alien TV series for FX with Ridley Scott as the producer.
