According to the now-infamous Nvidia GeForce Now leak, NRS should’ve let us know about the new Mortal Kombat and Injustice games by now. Specifically, the leak suggests Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall will be out by January 3. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 12 supposedly has an April 3 launch date. However, we know by now that, while the info contained in the leak is legit, studios often shuffle the release dates around. For example, the PC port of Returnal hasn’t been confirmed yet although it’s only a matter of time before it’s out. The same goes for the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima. Still, both titles are scheduled to come out by 2023, so it stands to reason that we should’ve heard about them by now. After all, NetherRealm Studios revealed Mortal Kombat 11 at The Game Awards in 2018 and it was out by April of the next year. Having said that, the next Mortal Kombat game was hinted at earlier this year by the voice actor of Johnny Cage. At the same time, Ed Boon clarified NRS is focused on celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat. So, the gist is NRS probably isn’t going to be at The Game Awards but we can expect some form of announcement soon. If nothing else, a new Injustice or Mortal Kombat game is long overdue. The new co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, recently confirmed plans to integrate games into the DC Universe. Fingers crossed, NRS’ next Injustice game will be a part of this. After all, Zack Snyder said in the past that the Injustice comic books and video games inspired his original vision for the then-DCEU. Who’s to say Gunn isn’t going to do the same? Ultimately, gamers shouldn’t feel too sad that NRS won’t be at The Game Awards. Several other studios will be at the event to do their own showcase. For starters, Yoshi-P will be at the event as well as Bandai Namco and possibly Electronic Arts and Blizzard Entertainment. Besides, do we need more of a reason to tune in on December 8 than to find out which of Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok will take home the GOTY award?
