Back in February, Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, revealed it is developing a sequel to the 1988 film. However, the company has not provided any update on the film since then. When asked about his possible involvement in the film, Burton commented, “I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting. I try to go back to the root of everything. It springs from a seed and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things but it’s all very early days. We’ll see how it goes. How’s that for a none answer?” Burton had earlier suggested he had no interest in the film. However, his statement at the festival leaves things open-ended and neither confirms nor discards his involvement. Burton’s fantasy horror comedy film, Beetlejuice, received critical acclaim. In addition to the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling it won, the film also received three Saturn Awards including Best Actress and Best Horror Film. Beetlejuice grossed $74.2 million on its humble budget of $15 million. Beetlejuice tells the story of a deceased young couple who hire a bio-exorcist to scare away their house’s new occupants. It starred Michael Keaton as the titular character, alongside Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Catherine O’Hara. The film became widely popular, inspiring an animated television series, several video games, and a stage musical. Burton also revealed he doesn’t have any ongoing film project at the moment but stated that he will be completing work on his forthcoming Netflix film Wednesday, which is a spinoff of The Addams Family. Apart from Beetlejuice, Burton also fielded questions about his 1996 film Mars Attacks! and his on-and-off relationship with Disney, including his 2019 live-action reboot of Dumbo, which starred Colin Farell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, Eva Green, and Alan Arkin. Apart from Burton, other notable names that have received the Prix Lumière include Jane Fonda, Jon Campion, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino. The Burton-directed Netflix series, Wednesday, is set to debut on November 23. Netflix released a new trailer for the series in early October. It will star Jenna Ortega as the titular character, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, and Gwendoline Christie.
